Health Check for Vietnam Work Permit

Health Check Certificate is a required medical document for foreigners when applying for work permits in Vietnam. Work Permit Health Checks can be performed either in Vietnam or in your home country. The following instructions will help you prepare a valid health check certificate.

1. What are the requirements for a valid health check certificate issued in Vietnam?

A health check certificate issued in Vietnam is considered valid for a work permit application if it meets the following requirements:

  • The health check certificate must be issued by an authorized Vietnamese medical hospital/clinic (see the list in Section #3);
  • The health check certificate is valid for the work permit application within 12 months from its issuance date;
  • The conclusion includes a health classification by the doctor. The health status should be suitable for work depending on the requirements of the specific job position.

2. Important notes before going to health check

  • Make an appointment for your work permit health check with an authorized hospital/clinic
  • Do not drink coffee or alcohol and keep fasting from 8 to 10 hours before providing blood and urine samples
  • Bring 2 photos (size 4 x 6 with white background) and your original passport

4. How to obtain a valid work permit health check certificate issued overseas

In case foreign employees can’t perform work permit health checks in Vietnam, they can perform health checks overseas. A health check certificate will be considered valid for a work permit application in Vietnam if it matches these conditions:

  • The health check certificate must be issued by a foreign hospital/clinic, and must include the examination contents specified in Circular 14/2013/TT-BYT (see below);
  • The health check certificate is valid for the work permit application within 12 months from its issuance date;
  • The health check certificate must be consular legalized and notarial translated into the Vietnamese language.
